After more than six months of having his retirement, Kevin Lee said he’s making a comeback in his MMA career.
“The Motown Phenom” took his last fight last July by fighting Rinat Fakhretdinov. Unfortunately, the fighter suffered a terrible submission loss to the opponent, who marked his three-fight losing skid before announcing his retirement.
Lee officially started fighting for the UFC in 2014 but gradually received fewer fight bookings in the last few years of his UFC stay. In 2018 and 2019, the fighter was only given two fights each year. And in 2020, 2021, and 2023, his booking frequency dropped to one each year. Now, the fighter hopes to get fights again, but it is unknown if it will still be under UFC.
Despite announcing his comeback, Lee’s situation with the UFC remains a mystery. In his post, the fighter seemingly suggested that he’s unsure of his position in the promotion, suggesting he doesn’t know if he’s still included in the roster or if he still has a contract. If that is the case, the fighter might find himself signing to a new promotion in his return.
Despite all these uncertainties, nonetheless, the fighter seems to be just happy about his plan at the moment.
“I’m coming out of retirement,” Lee wrote on X. “I’ll fight MMA again. Idk when, where, or who yet but I’m dropping weight and getting into shape now. … I’m gonna get in the best shape of my life that’s my focus right now. It’s been 6 months since I retired and I miss being around the sport.”
