Khabib Nurmagamedov Does Not Believe That Conor McGregor Deserves a Title Shot… But He Has No Problem Battering Him…

Oh, we’re so excited. It looks like we’re finally going to get the fight that we’ve been all been waiting for. Khabib Nurmagamedov vs Conor McGregor. The single most exciting fight possible in MMA today. The pair has yet to sign, although it is believed that an agreement should not be far away, with October 6 the UFC’s desired date for this epic clash.

As soon as McGregor walked out of court in Brooklyn, New York, last Thursday, and the news broke that he would not face a criminal record, Nurmagamedov was straight onto Instagram calling out his Irish rival. Both Ali Abdelaziz and Audie Attar, the duo’s managers, have confirmed that this is the fight that makes sense. Sorry, Nate Diaz.

Anyway, Khabib has stepped up his trash talk game. In an interview with MMA Junkie, he revealed what he thought about this potential fight and how he can beat Conor McGregor. It’s good stuff.

Money Fight

‘The Eagle’ insists that McGregor does not deserve to get a title shot straight off the bat. He’s been out of MMA action for two years and broke the record for longest time passed without defending a belt. However, he’s pragmatic enough to accept that it’s the ‘money fight.’

“I’m not going to give him a chance to make money and fight with me,” Nurmagomedov said. “Without me, this fight is impossible. If they want to pay for me a couple hundred thousand and make this fight, make money for UFC and make money for Conor, for a couple hundred thousand, no way, brother. Conor is 2-2 in his last four fights. He doesn’t deserve a title shot. But we know that’s the money fight.”

Well, that makes sense. It remains to be seen what their purses are, but expect McGregor’s to be record-breaking for an MMA fighter. Figures of $50 million have been mentioned. That’s not that outrageous considering he earned $100 million in his last fight. Why should he settle for less?

Master Plan

Many people believe that the Dagestani Sambo fighter is a stylistic nightmare for McGregor. His oppressive wrestling style is the opposite to McGregor’s preferred measured counter-striking. But if there’s one thing the Notorious has proven, particularly early in his career, it’s that he likes upsetting the odds.

“My plan is make him flat, make him tired and make him give up,” Nurmagomedov said. “This is my plan. I don’t want to finish him early. I want to make him pay for all things that happen. I can’t believe we finally going to fight. We have to sign (the contract). We have to know where we’re going to fight.

“He don’t have conditioning. He don’t have wrestling. He don’t have anything. He have one very good left hand. I’m going to cut this angle and try to take him down 100 times. He think if Khabib fight like I did against Iaquinta, maybe he can beat me. But look at my 10 fights. They’re all different.”

Exciting

All we need now is for this pair to finally take their pens out and sign on the dotted line. The fans want it. They want it. It’s just up to the UFC to offer a lucrative enough package so that both men – particularly McGregor are enticed back into the octagon.

We’re THIS close to get an absolutely magnificent high-level MMA match-up. Potentially the biggest fight in the history of the sport – simply because of McGregor’s status in pop culture. Let’s hope they get it over the line. You’d almost forget that the lightweight title is on the line. This would sell without it.
