“The Notorious” Conor McGregor, UFC’s flashy and charismatic lightweight champion will meet legend and universally recognized as pound-for-pound the best boxer in the world, Floyd “Money” Mayweather at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26th, and fans cannot wait to see how the two high-level fighters will stack up against each other.

McGregor, for one, feels like Mayweather is just simply too small of a challenger.

Much has been made of the size difference between the two. While Mayweather has competed largely as a welterweight in boxing at 147 pounds for the latter parts of his career. McGregor campaigns as a lightweight in the UFC, which is at 145 pounds. The Irishman has gone up even as high as welterweight in the UFC, which is at 170 pounds.

There is no question as to who is the larger man. In a report by Boxingscene, McGregor shares his thoughts on how Mayweather will be able to handle the size difference.

“He’s a small man. He’s in good shape, he’s right, the little bastard does look good for 40. He does look alright for a 40-year-old,” McGregor said. “Floyd is definitely not gonna take the shots, the legs, the body, the stability and the core, it doesn’t support him against this animal”

“His frame is just too small. He’s got a good jab, good lead hook, good check hook, good right hand, good pulls, good dips. In my opinion, his in and outs aren’t good, he’s flat, and against my style, he’ll find himself in trouble.”

Based on McGregor’s words, it’s all pretty telling.

How big of a size difference are we talking about?

When the two fighters went on the highly-publicized world press tour a few weeks ago, they got to stand face to face each other for the first time. And the size difference, well, it was definitely evident.

“When I’m face to face with men I can tell from their facial structure. I’ve fought many men from all rule-sets, big Eastern European motherf***ers and I’m looking at their skull, and I know it’s going to take a few smacks to put this man away,” McGregor added.

“It happened with the Nate Diaz rematch too, he knew the weight would be 170[lbs] instead of 155 so he got bigger and when he got close I saw his head and I thought ‘this guy’s gonna take some smacks off me.’”

McGregor is of course used to facing larger men inside the Octagon. And with much smaller 4 oz. gloves as well, compared to what they will use in boxing which are 10 oz. gloves.

McGregor says Mayweather doesn’t know what he’s up against

Bottomline is, McGregor feels Mayweather doesn’t know what he’s going up against. And he has made a bone chilling prediction about what’s going to happen in the fight.

“When I met Aldo – undefeated, pound for pound – I just looked at his head and it’s ‘I know you’re good, I know you’re this and you’re that, but you’re not gonna take the smacks off me.’ It took one shot to make him fall.

“Floyd is definitely not gonna take the shots, the legs, the body, the stability and the core, it doesn’t support him against this animal. He is in over his head with this, he doesn’t know what he’s got himself into.”

So what do you guys think? Do you think size will indeed play a factor and be the reason why McGregor shocks the world on August 26th?

  1. Allot of bullshit, thats all. Why quote McGregor. In boxing he is a nobody bcause he isn’t a boxer. There are no mma fighters holding any of the valid title belts in boxing and for a good reason.
