Cervantes’ arrest was as a result of a criminal complaint filed against him by a 15-year old girl to Albuquerque police. He is accused of forcibly having sex with the minor 4 or 5 times throughout March 2015.
The victim stated to police that after the two had been drinking at a party together, Cervantes forced himself on her and she did not know how to stop him. Cervantes is also accused of having sex with the minor several other times in the days and weeks that followed. According to the criminal complaint, cell phone data proves that Cervantes and the victim were near each other at the time of the alleged attacks, and witnesses from house parties have stated they saw the two together.
The most damning piece of evidence available to the public at the moment however, is that Cervantes is out on bond stemming from similar charges back in 2014. Those charges involved kidnapping and criminal sexual penetration.
Unfortunately mixed martial arts sometimes produces a few bad apples, such as War Machine or Joe Son, both of whom are currently in jail on assault and sexual assault charges. Stephen Cervantes, if these allegations are true, will have joined the ranks of other fighters to have committed terrible crimes.
