A new report claims that UFC might be “secretly” considering Nate Diaz to replace Michael Chandler in welcoming Conor McGregor in his return to UFC.
Eddie Alvarez, a professional mixed martial artist and a BKFC boxer with experience with McGregor and Chandler, shared the possibility as fans remain clueless about McGregor and Chandler’s fight date. The two took the role of coaches in The Ultimate Fighter, but the fight between them remains unannounced. This has caused fans to question whether a fight will still manifest.
Alvarez, nonetheless, believes it is only a delay as UFC is considering other options, naming Diaz as the top choice for this. As the bare-knuckle boxer explained, a third match between the two makes sense as it will attract fans and certainly benefit the UFC. With this, he believes that UFC might take back Diaz, who is currently a free agent, to make this possible.
“I think UFC down low might be trying to make the largest fight possible, they always want to make the largest fight possible and I think waiting in the wings is Nate Diaz,” Alvarez told The Schmo. “Secretly, Nate Diaz on the side may be making them discussions with the UFC. Doing that Conor-Diaz 3, which you know, that’s one of the largest pay-per-views ever in UFC history so kind of be stupid not to do and I think that could be the curveball we’re all waiting to hear.”
