“I’m a weight class above that guy — 10 pounds and all of a sudden I’m this monster,” said Diaz. “And Conor McGregor is doing this great thing because he lost to this big old 205 pound guy and wants a rematch so bad. This is the greatest story? I’ve been wanting rematches with everybody I ever lost to and I didn’t even lose to most of the people I lost to.”
Nate finished off the interview strong. If there was a mic, it would have dropped by the end of the talk.
“Those decision losses, I’m like, ‘I want that fight,’ and they’re like ‘Don’t even talk about that fight. You lost, you ain’t getting it back.’ And now it’s a big deal because [McGregor] wants a rematch and he gets one?” said Diaz.
“This is all built up for him. It’s all built up for his ‘comeback.’ They’re talking about after this fight, he’s dipping back to 145.
“They’re really protecting that guy, you know?
“If they beat Nate, we’re going to another weight class. We don’t want to hear about Nate again.’ I’m like, what’s that? I accepted a rematch three days later.
When the lights dim and it’s time to go to war, Diaz says he has only one game plan.
“I trained hard and came here to do my thing and go home in one piece, that’s my plan.”
