Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor could potentially be fighting for the third time in the UFC this year. After Conor McGregor’s social media post about Nate Diaz, his rival has fired back with a daunting reminder of their first fight…

Las Vegas, Nevada, March 5, 2016. Originally scheduled to be headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Rafael dos Anjos for the latter’s lightweight title, the pay-per-view event took a big last-minute hit.

As the Brazilian dos Anjos fell out of the main event with a foot injury, the UFC frantically searched for a replacement on two weeks notice. After 48 hours of looking, the promotion found the substitute.

Inserting Nate Diaz, the ultimate anti-company man, would prove to be a game-changing decision. Thinking their biggest star would plow through the somewhat out-of-shape Stockton grappler, the UFC agreed to Diaz’s demands of a bout at 170 pounds.

The Octagon door closed at UFC 196 and nine minutes 12 seconds later a new star was born.

New Beginning

Submitting a gassed and bloodied McGregor in the second round, Diaz used his newfound fame to set the record straight. It was almost the UFC’s worst nightmare, as the younger Diaz bro tore through the promotion’s intended image with countless harsh truths.

Obviously, the UFC were keen on getting that win back and so UFC 202 was a crucial claw-back for them. Winning the decision after a crazy fight, McGregor was once again put forward for a lightweight title shot.

But it’s not only Diaz who has been reminiscing about their yet-to-be-finalized rivalry. McGregor posted the following image on Instagram this week, and it spurred yet another response from Diaz:

Real Fight Indeed

No doubt, UFC 202’s main event was one of the most entertaining wars in recent memory. The decision handed down by the judges is still disputed by most Diaz fans today. The fact McGregor is now stripped (? clarification needed please, UFC) of the lightweight title means a trilogy scrap is even more likely for 2018.

Responding to McGregor’s latest Instagram post, Diaz threw some shade in the direction of his Irish foe:

So the dance continues, as talks of Floyd Mayweather joining the UFC and Ferguson vs. Khabib for some sort of lightweight belt hum along to the same tune. Meanwhile, Diaz is busy not giving a f*ck, as always:

As per ESPN.com

“(Conor McGregor) is just living his life right now and he’s got a magnifying glass on him, whatever he’s doing,” Diaz said. “I don’t give a f— what he does.

“I’m sure he’s up and down. ‘Do I want to be in these lights? Why am I not in these lights? I need to get in the lights. I need to get out of the lights.’ It’s a crazy roller coaster.”

“I’m getting to the point where I’m sick of not fighting. I’m not getting any younger,” Diaz told ESPN.
