Wow…The harsh reality of this sport is completely summed up in this video clip…

UFC 214 ended up having a highly emotionally charged main event. Obviously the bad blood between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier was set to boiling point, but few expected the fallout that resulted.

DC looked good for the first half of the fight, but in round three Jones caught him flush. Landing a perfectly timed head kick, ‘Bones’ rocked Cormier and went for the finish. Once again the king at 205 pounds, ‘Bones’ had completed his career turnaround.

After the fight was when the real emotions came in to play…

For all the trash talk and harsh feelings, both Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones were shown to be very human after UFC 214…

Jones’ Kind Words & Cormier’s Tears

As DC stood a broken man, clearly emotional by what had unfolded, Jones gave kind words during his post-fight speech. It was an unexpected turn of events, but the new champ said he aspired to be like his former rival.

This didn’t change how hard it was to watch Cormier in his distraught moment. Newly leaked footage from the overhead cam shows just how confused and upset DC was in the moments after being knocked out for the first time in his career:

That Was Truly Tough To Watch

Thankfully Cormier is now OK, and released the following heartfelt message to Instagram:

First off, thank you all for the kind words. I have felt the support. Congratulations to Jon Jones and his team. They did a phenomenal job and got the victory. Also, to Big John McCarthy, I would like to apologize for acting up with you. I am thankful for the time you gave me to try and defend myself and stay in the fight.

You are the best in the business for a reason. I also wanna thank my team and my coaches. I love you all from the bottom of my heart. Your time and energy is greatly appreciated. You guys did a wonderful job, I was ready. It’s a fist fight and things happen. Dana White and the @ufc, thank you for being the premiere organization in all of MMA. Again, congrats to Team Jones and JacksonWink. Love you all. I’ll see you soon. DC

Cormier to Heavyweight, Jones vs. Lesnar?

Rumours are already circulating about Jones potentially facing WWE star Brock Lesnar in his next outing. ‘Bones’ has never fought in a ‘superfight,’ or money fight as they are now known, and has started engaging in trash talk with the ex-UFC heavyweight champ.

The obvious discussion about a change in weight class has started for Cormier. Given that he dominated heavyweight in his Strikeforce and early UFC days, it would seem like a smart move.

Perhaps the impending addition of the cruiserweight division to the UFC would give DC some more options down the line too.

  1. why didn’t they let the man leave — and why did he get interviewed. Jones caught him — it happens — but that was just the UFC trying to hype and make money. Its not about fighting any more — its about personalities. Jones should be heavy weight — WTF. Much respect to DC.
