One of the most humiliating losses in UFC history went down over the weekend. Ronda Rousey was knocked out in 48-seconds by reigning UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

Nunes stormed out of the gate at the sound of the opening bell. She tagged Rousey over and over with accurate punches carrying concussive power.

Rousey had spent a year away from the Octagon to contemplate on her career. But she did not appear to have improved her striking. As a result, it was virtual target practice for Nunes as the “Lioness” blasted Rousey repeatedly to score the standing TKO.

The former Olympic bronze medalist judoka largely avoided any interaction with media in the lead up to the fight. She even skimped on the weigh-ins by storming off the stage after facing off with Nunes.

After the result was read in the Octagon, Rousey did not stick around for Joe Rogan to have a word with her.

Ronda Rousey Was Brutally Knocked Out By Amanda Nunes In 48-Seconds

There is a lot of speculation on what will happen next for Rousey. However, immediately after the fight Rousey released a statement detailing her future in the UFC.

“I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me,” said Rousey in a statement.

“Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes — even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly — it doesn’t work how you planned.

“I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda.

“I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”

Will Fans Ever See Ronda Rousey Back Inside The Octagon?

Rousey once enjoyed the status of being the biggest name in the MMA world. She cruised through the first 12 bouts of her career, winning the first eight by armbar. The wins made her famously known as ‘the arm collector’.

Upon joining the UFC, Rousey was named the UFC’s first women’s bantamweight champion by President Dana White. Rousey successfully defended her title six times before losing to Holly Holm in 2015.

Now with the loss to Nunes, Rousey fans have no idea if they will ever see her back inside the Octagon.
