Dana White Has Addressed Media About His Days as a Boxercise Instructor… Something That He Has Emphatically Denied in the Past…

First and foremost: there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a boxercise instructor. Literally nothing. You’re helping people to improve their bodies, self-confidence and all that comes with it. Of course, that’s a great thing and if that’s what you do then keep on going.

However, Dana White has emphatically denied being a boxercise instructor in the past. The UFC President seems to think that there is something emasculatory about the coaching role and it has been used as an insult against him throughout his career.

Now evidence has arisen to the contrary in a picture that is making waves across the Internet, for no other reason than the fact that it’s fun to annoy White. You can see the image below of the UFC boss in full regalia teaching a class of ladies below.

Sensitive

White is very sensitive about being called a ‘jumped-up boxercise coach.’ It’s an insult that goes back to his days in Boston where he ran a boxing gym. Infamously he had to do a runner after members of Whitey Bulger’s gang tried to extort protection money from them. This led to him going to Las Vegas where he met up with the Fertitta brothers.

Then they bought a brand called the UFC and now it’s a multi-billion dollar enterprise. He’s come a long way from his boxercise days. White insists though that he never taught the sport back in Boston though. He told Fox News show Objectified:

“We weren’t boxercise instructors. We taught boxing classes. It did really well.”

Sure…

However, in Las Vegas, he basically did teach boxercise classes. Why he is so defensive about this, nobody knows. But that’s what makes it funny. White continued:

”Boxing fitness, it was called. “So I taught classes at the clubs, they were huge, packed. Then I had a gym and took people in and trained them, private lessons. And I used to have these boxing clinics that I would have every five weeks.”

Ok boxercise, boxing fitness, kick-fit, box-fit, whatever you want to call it, they’re all pretty much the same thing. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. In fairness, your average Muay Thai class can resemble boxercise if you just take away the sparring element. Calm down, Dana. Just own it.

Moving On

It’s funny how somebody who is a multi-millionaire, and the face of the corporate end of one of the biggest sporting franchises in the world can be so sensitive about something so innocuous. However, he was quick to move on. White said:

”I show up at a wedding and Lorenzo Fertitta approaches me and he’s like ‘What’s up, how you been?’” White said. “And we started talking and he’s like ‘I heard you’re boxing’ and I’m like ‘Yeah’ and he says ‘I just got into the Nevada State Athletic Commission, let’s get together, I’d like to train.’ So that Monday him and his brother Frank show up and started training with me, and we’ve literally been together ever since.”

And the rest is history.
