Is this rematch really going to happen? Floyd Mayweather has stunned the world by dropping a poster announcing a rematch with Conor McGregor. The Irishman won his comeback against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in brutal style. He’s now free to move on with his career after reminding the world how ruthless a fighter he really is.

The pair fought in 2017 in one of the most lucrative fights of all-time. It made McGregor the wealthiest MMA fighter ever, while Mayweather went 50-0 undefeated. The match was a media circus from beginning to end. Finally, Mayweather won by 10th round TKO.

However, he has been in negotiations with Dana White for previously unknown reasons. The pair hinted that they had an announcement to make. Is Mayweather actually telling the truth with this rematch poster below or is he just trolling?

Rematch

As you can see from the image above, it all looks very official. However, is this really such a smart idea? At the age of 42, Mayweather is over ten years older than a prime McGregor. But at the end of the day money talks. And ‘Money’ is talking right now.

“I would love that Floyd rematch,” McGregor said. “Talks have been ongoing with Manny Pacquiao. For me, an aspiration of mine is to win a boxing world title. That would be a phenomenal feather in the cap and something I look to achieve and will achieve in the future.”

He’d also like another $100 million in his bank account.

One of a Kind

However, Team Mayweather has warned McGregor to be careful what you wished for. Ray Sadeghi is Mayweather’s longterm bodyguard and has said that he doesn’t stand a chance. He told MMA Junkie that the Irishman just isn’t a skilled enough boxer.

“Conor talks a lot, and one thing we do know is he talks a lot, and he doesn’t back it up,” Sadeghi said. “He can say, ‘Oh, he did this in the beginning and in the third round.’ One thing we know as a fighter is everyone starts off fresh and strong. As the rounds go on and on he’ll show the true colors of who is the better fighter and who is the more skilled fighter.

“One thing we do know: Conor, you can say what you want to say, but you got knocked out, and you got severe head trauma and a concussion that was reported by your doctor. Is the outcome going to be the same? I truly believe that no one can outbox Floyd. No one can outwork Floyd. His offense and his defense and his technique – this man is just made for this.

Exciting

MMA fighters are great all-round athletes but of course, they can be beaten by a specialist. It doesn’t have to be boxing, it could be BJJ or wrestling. If you focus on just one then you’re going to be disproportionally better. That’s Sadeghi’s viewpoint anyway. He said:

“His dad, his uncles have been in this for decades, and he’s been doing this since he was a little boy. You can try. If that fight happens and the negotiations go so you guys can put it together and the fight is going to happen, will I love to see that? Absolutely. Is the result going to be the same? I don’t know. It’s going to be a very exciting fight, and I’m sure Conor is going to come out stronger, but you cannot underestimate the best ever.”
