If Rousey is ready and willing to fight by the end of the year, which is what rumours indicate, then she will most likely get an immediate shot at the title.

While it is never clear what the rules are regarding ex-champions getting title shots in their first fight since losing is, usually formerly dominant champions (BJ Penn, Anderson Silva etc.) are given that opportunity. Rousey defended her title 6 times, that counts as dominance.

Despite what Rousey’s popularity has done for women’s mixed martial arts, Julianna Pena is not about to give her any respect. Even though women fighters like Holly Holm are quick to honour Rousey’s pioneering of women’s mixed martial arts, Pena is decidedly un-interested in making friends with Rousey; this interview made that perfectly clear.
