Conor McGregor and Sage Northcutt Have the Most Polite Exchange on Twitter in the History of the UFC…
It’s one of the weirder stories out there in MMA of late. Conor McGregor and Sage Northcutt have had a Twitter exchange. Yes, that’s right, ‘Super’ Sage and Conor actually had an interaction and it’s making news, but not for any reason that you’re thinking.
McGregor and Northcutt share the fact that they tend to polarise fans. You probably love them or hate them, there’s little room for middle ground. The Irishman’s case is obvious. He fought and trash-talked his way to the top and has yet to defend his hard-won titles, so straight away he’s given the haters an opportunity.
Northcutt’s situation is slightly different. He’s young and very humble. However, he’s seen as one of a new generation of pampered fighters. Still only 22, he entered the UFC at an insanely young age. His natural good looks, youth, and insane physique made him a marketing dream, but the promotion he received turned out to be too much too soon.

Big Boy Now
‘Super’ Sage has just turned 22. In a bizarre move, Northcutt decided that the best way to share his birthday with the world was to upload an image of himself onto with McGregor’s tattoos on his body. It’s a very curious image to look at, especially with Northcutt’s bright pearly whites beaming innocently out at you.
He’s the kind of guy who many fighters just find too corny to handle. It’s a line Mickey Gall used when calling Northcutt out. For example, he always calls his head coach, Urijah Faber, Mr. Faber. It’s one of those harmless little things that cause some people to grit their teeth in frustration, as harmless and well-meaning as it may be.
Happy birthday kid. https://t.co/wlmpKE6SHT

Happy Birthday
Needless to say, Conor McGregor got involved. However, not how you might expect. In a week where he’s been embroiled in online combat against Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar, it’s not unfair to imagine he’d treat Northcutt mercilessly.
The Irishman was actually very nice to Northcutt. He simply wrote:
“Happy Birthday Kid”.
Well, what do you make of that? Does coming into possession of $100 million soften your attitude towards your fellow fighters? Maybe one day McGregor will answer that one for us. Anyway, Northcutt typically fanboyed out and replied:
@TheNotoriousMMA Thanks Mr. McGregor! Can’t wait to see you fight again!
A part of Michael Bisping just died after reading this.

Divisive figures
It’s likely that we’ll get to see both of these men back in action this year. Northcutt is coming off the back of a contentious split-decision win over Thibault Gouti in Austin last month. After a brutal cut to make lightweight, he’s likely to go back up a division to 170. There’s no denying that he has improved dramatically since joining Team Alpha Male.
In the case of McGregor, he’s back in training but with no definite opponent lined up yet. The winner of Khabib Nurmagamedov V. Tony Ferguson is the most likely at this point, but there are some more options being looked at. It’s highly unlikely to be Floyd Mayweather Jr. who has just had a birthday himself, turning 41 years young.
