Aldo’s coach, Andre Pederneiras met with Brazilian media recently and explained that Jose would like to leave the UFC, but his contract with the company will not allow it.
“Aldo wants to do the other things, but in the conversations we had (with the UFC), it became clear that they’re not going to let him do that,” Aldo’s coach stated.
“There’s nothing we can do. We have to fight.” Pederneiras continued.

Aldo won the WEC featherweight championship in November of 2009, defeating ATT’s Mike Brown. When the WEC and the UFC merged, Aldo became the inaugural UFC featherweight champ. As WEC champ he defended the belt 2x, he then defended it 7x more in the UFC. Then in 13 seconds at UFC 194, Conor McGregor took it all away from him.

For Aldo, the loss to Conor was just the second loss of his career, and his first in over a decade. His career in major promotions had been perfect, and his accomplishments as champion only bested by the likes of Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre. Then not only does Conor take what he had built, but makes far more money than him in the process. It is easy to see why Aldo is so upset.
“If he goes back to fight, he will only fight to unify the title, independent of who it’s against,” Pederneiras said regarding Aldo’s next bout.
“Aldo will accept no other fight unless it’s to unify the title.”
