Following the announcement that Conor McGregor would challenge UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, Aldo was furious. When it became clear that Conor would not be vacating the title, Aldo announced that he was retiring.

Following that meeting Aldo expressed that an understanding of sorts had taken place, but said he was still retiring from the sport. Now that more time has passed, it appears Aldo has come to accept that the UFC will not be letting him out of his contract.
