Georges St-Pierre vs. Conor McGregor is being talked about more and more lately. The former two-weight world champion against the former two-weight world champion…
The world of mixed martial arts waited a long time for Georges St-Pierre to come back. Even though he won the middleweight world title at UFC 217, it wasn’t long before GSP up and walked out the door again.
Although it’s been a bit less time, 18 months to be precise, MMA’s biggest star Conor McGregor has been keeping fans waiting too. After wins over Jose Aldo at UFC 194 and Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, ‘The Notorious’ went extended periods without defending either belt.
In fact, he even went and fought Floyd Mayweather in a different sport. Superstars, it seems, have the luxury of not needing to fight and thus, quite often, simply don’t. For those further down the ladder of success, simply covering costs can be a nightmare.
165 Pounds?!?
The MMA world has again become fixated on the idea of Conor McGregor fighting GSP. Funnily enough, that’s exactly what the UFC would want right now as it would sell out any stadium or arena and likely smash the PPV record.
But where has the talk of 165 pounds come from? Well, on top of the fact the UFC will soon add the super-lightweight division to it’s rankings, and the fact McGregor requested a 165-pound title fight with Frankie Edgar, apparently, St-Pierre has also been discussing it:
Here’s Chael Sonnen dropping the knowledge:

“He will be back, it will be against Conor in what will be the biggest fight in MMA history. I know that Georges would do it, I also believe that contrary to what many fans are saying about Conor moving up, Georges will go down. He told me this, Georges said he will fight for the 165-pound title.”
Of course, Sonnen isn’t the only one talking about this fight, but another veteran of the UFC, Diego Sanchez, wants it to happen for different reasons:

“@thenotoriousmma come on brother we need 165lb weight you have the power with @ufc and @danawhite to make it happen! #first3divisionchampionfight and winner goes down as the #realgoat #millions #thesportneedsthisweightclass @georgesstpierre talks 155? 165 is realistic #makeithappen @audieattar #historyinthemaking.”
Realistically, what other massive fight does the UFC have to make right now? Since being taken over by WEM, it’s been clear the promotion has been driven to make back the talent company’s $4 billion investment.
Georges St-Pierre vs. Conor McGregor at 165 pounds…?
