Georges St. Pierre Believes That He Would Easily Beat The Winner of Conor McGregor v Khabib Nurmagamedov…
Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagamedov: watch out. ‘Rush’ is coming to get you. That’s if Georges St. Pierre has his way at least. He is pushing for a fight against the winner of UFC 229’s much anticipated main event and is ready to make a nasty weight cut to get down and fight them.
The Canadian is an absolute legend of the sport. He’s the most successful welterweight champion of all time, and became a double champion when he came back after four years out. He defeated Michael Bisping to claim the middleweight strap, and now wants to complete a historic treble.
However, he needs to convince the UFC that he’s able to make it down to lightweight. They’re pushing for him to headline UFC 230 and take on Anderson Silva. GSP is sticking to his guns though and wants to become the Triple Champion.
Makes Sense
Nate Diaz you might want to look away now. When asked by Submission Radio if he would fight The Eagle or The Notorious, St. Pierre confirmed that the idea is appealing to him. He said:
“I would be interested in that fight. That’s a win-win situation. It’s a legacy upgrade and it’s good money. It’s gonna be a big fight. Yeah, however, I fought at 170, I relinquished the title and I fought at 185, I relinquished the title. I don’t think the UFC will let me fight for the title at 155. They will be afraid I’ll relinquish and I’ll leave the division in ruins again.”
As reported earlier today, the UFC is trying to persuade him to take a fight against Anderson Silva and headline November’s UFC 230. However, a fight against the washed-up Brazilian isn’t what GSP wants right now, even though it would definitely sell.

No Problem
Despite suffering from ulcerative colitis, ‘Rush’ is adamant that he could make the cut down to 155. That’s despite fighting over 30lbs heavier when he defeated Michael Bisping. It would be an insane achievement just to make it down to lightweight successfully.
“From my perspective it’s a very winning situation, for the UFC it’s a big risk for them,” St. Pierre said. “155, I know Khabib, I’ve met Khabib and Khabib is actually bigger than me when he’s off-season. He’s a big guy. He walks around 195. Right now I’m less than 185. I’m 183, 185. I’ve always been like that, my natural fit weight. But yeah, 155, I think I could make it.”
Yes, but there’s a bit of an age difference. St. Pierre is 37, while Khabib is 29. Weight cuts don’t get easier with age, as the likes of Yoel Romero are finding out.
Wait and See
This is going to be really interesting. The UFC will definitely be torn over this one. After UFC 229, there is no bigger fight for either McGregor or Khabib than a clash with the one bonafide legend left in the UFC with an incredible reputation.
However, even though they don’t really care about standings and divisions these days, they’ll be wary after the absolute mess that middleweight was left in after GSP vacated. Lightweight is congested enough right now. This needs to be for real.
