Khabib Nurmagamedov Has Called Out Floyd Mayweather Jr… For a Boxing Match…
This is what beating Conor McGregor can do for your status. There is absolutely no doubt that Khabib Nurmagamedov is one of the biggest stars in the UFC right now. He’s overcome the language barrier to connect with MMA fans across the world – though he’s definitely a national hero in his native Russia.
With an immaculate record of 27-0, Khabib is that incredibly rare thing: an unbeaten MMA fighter with over 20 fights. Only Jon Jones (we’re not counting his ‘loss’ to Matt Hammill) comes close. Another couple of wins will see the Russian as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter on the planet.
Now Khabib finds options opening up for himself. He’s already warned the UFC that he won’t fight Conor McGregor again unless he’s offered a record-breaking contract and that if his teammate Zubaira Tukhagov gets sacked, he’ll walk too. Now he’s called out Floyd Mayweather for a boxing super fight.

‘Money’ Time?
Now the chances of this happening are slim to none. Khabib appears serious though. He wants to go one step further than his nemesis Conor McGregor and beat down the unbeaten 50-0 boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. He challenged the 41-year-old American legend saying:
“Hey, let’s go, Floyd. We have to fight now. 50-0 vs. 27-0. Two guys never lose. Let’s go. Why not? Because in the jungle, only one king. Only one king. Of course, I am the king because he cannot drop McGregor but I drop him easily. Let’s go!”

Come Back
Mayweather is expected to make yet another comeback against Manny Pacquiao, who he is aiming to make money off in early 2019. Both men are definitely past their best – as they were when they finally faced each other after years of fans wanting them to. Pacquaio’s former promoter Bob Arum told TMZ:
“I don’t want any part of it. They’re past their prime. It’ll do good at the box office. It’ll make money, which is fine. But, they’re not elite fighters anymore.”
This is why Khabib is licking his lips. The 30-year-old Dagestani obviously thinks that while Mayweather is still a classy operator, he might be slowing down just enough that he can go further than McGregor and inflict Mayweather’s first loss.

Unlikely
It’s highly unlikely that this will happen. For a start, Khabib doesn’t have the polarizing personality of McGregor in the mainstream, who was massively responsible for the success of the event. He went full Chael Sonnen, as he hid his boxing inadequacy by talking the good talk. Even the doubters believed he had a puncher’s chance.
Khabib is probably too big for Mayweather and not good enough of a boxer. He’s a very decent MMA striker – just look at the way he dropped McGregor at UFC 229. That style might work for a round or two, but against a seasoned, clinical operator like ‘Money’, who is arguably the greatest defensive boxer of all time, it just isn’t going to fly.
