3. Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman
This was one of promoter Don King’s first forays into fight promotion, and he did not spare any expense.
He got both fighters to sign on with him provided he could guarantee them a $5 million purse for the bout. King managed to get the money from the military dictator/President of Zaire Mobutu Sese Seko. He had amassed quite a fortune and wanted the big spectacle held in his country.
A 2 day music festival proceeded the bout, which included performances from James Brown and other famous musical acts.
