Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira UFC 140

The first time these two met it was for the interim heavyweight championship at UFC 92. At the time Randy Couture, who was the heavyweight champion, had just returned to the company after a long legal battle and contract dispute. In Couture’s absence, Nogueira won the interim heavyweight title by defeating former champion Tim Sylvia. When Couture returned a mini-tournament of sorts was set up, with the winner of Lesnar vs. Couture facing the winner of Nogueira vs. Mir at UFC 100. Mir shocked a lot of people by defeating Nogueira and winning the interim title, via TKO in the 2nd round. It was the first time in his career that Nogueira had been finished.

For years afterwards rumours persisted that Nogueira was coming into the fight injured and depleted from battling a staff infection. The rematch between Mir and Nogueira settled all doubts here however. Not only would Mir once again defeat Nogueira, he would finish him in dramatic fashion. Mir locked in a kimura and refused to let go, breaking Nogueira’s right humerus and ending the fight.
