Song Yadong is confident he will dominate his bout against Chris Gutierrez at UFC Fight Night 233. The Chinese fighter is not expecting a lot from the opponent, whom he expects to defeat with ease. After his win, Yadong has a plan to call out Petr Yan, who was originally the one set to face him in the fight.
No. 7-ranked bantamweight Yadong will face the American in a main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on December 9. Yet, Yadong doesn’t expect much from his No. 15-ranked opponent, who he said has some good qualities, albeit “nothing special.” And given Gutierrez’s current position, he believes his victory over him won’t make any significant change in his current ranking.
“Every time I will say I will knock him out quickly,” Yadong said during the UFC Fight Night 233 media day this Wednesday. “I know a little bit about him before I took this fight. Definitely, he’s a striker, has good footwork and switches stance. Nothing special.”
Despite this, Yadong has a bright vision for his future in the promotion, sharing his plans to fight those at the upper ranks soon. Before that, nonetheless, Yadong shared his plan to face Petr Yan first. The Russian was supposed to be his opponent in the event, but “No Mercy” reportedly suffered from an injury. With this, the Chinese expressed his strong intention to call out Yan after his expected win at UFC Fight Night 233.
“Yes, after this fight, I still want to fight Petr,” Song said in a Fanatics View interview. “I want to know whose boxing is better, in bantamweight. I want to fight him.”
