Mark Coleman vs. Chute Boxe
Mark Coleman sparked a brawl in the ring when he kept trying to fight after Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua broke his arm during a takedown in their fight at PRIDE 31.
Members of Brazil’s Chute Boxe team including Rua’s brother ‘Ninja’ and Wanderlei Silva quickly surged into the ring, while Coleman’s father and cornerman Phil Baroni followed suit.
Fists then started flying during which Coleman was suckerpunched twice, Baroni took Silva down and ‘The Hammer’ stood on his neck.
It was a chaotic scene that PRIDE officials only just managed to bring back under control, but temper’s were still flaring backstage afterwards.
The Chute Boxe team were furious, and so fearing that he was going to be outnumbered, Coleman managed to rally some of the other fighters in his lockerroom like Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Josh Barnett and Alistair Overeem to back him up.
The two groups then came face-to-face in a hallway and Coleman attempted to apologize, but the Rua’s, Silva and others weren’t having it.
It would have been the craziest backstage brawl in MMA history if it had went down, but amid the threat of mutually assured destruction cooler heads prevailed and they went their seperate ways.
