Sarah Kaufman vs. Roxanne Modafferi
Despite an 11-0 record, Strikeforce bantamweight champion Sarah Kaufman was still being confined to the co-main event of the promotion’s ‘Challengers’ series when she took on Roxanne Modafferi in 2010.
Late in the third round of the fight, the submission specialist Modafferi opted to pull guard and attacked with an armbar submission.
However, Kaufman opted to power her way out of the move by using her strength to scoop Modafferi up off the mat and then dump her back down to earth, causing the back of her head to bounce hard of the canvas and knock her out cold.
The highlight-reel slam was featured on ESPN’s ‘Plays Of The Week’ later that night – a rare occurence for an MMA fighter at that time – while it also helped ensure that Kaufman would be placed on a higher profile Strikeforce event for her next bout.
