No.2: Amanda Nunes vs. Cris Cyborg
The year ended with a true woman’s superfight between bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes and featherweight champion Cris Cyborg at UFC 232 and it was over almost as quickly as it had began.
Much of the talk leading into the fight was about how Cyborg was the dominant force in WMMA and had the size and power advantage, so it wasn’t a surprise that she took the fight to Nunes immediately, but that didn’t work out the way she may have been hoping.
Instead, Nunes almost immediately buckled Cyborg’s legs with a punch and then when she rose back up pieced together another four-punch combination ending with two hooks that sent her back down again.
Having remained unbeaten for 20 fights spanning 13 years, Cyborg defiantly rose to her feet again looking to mount a comeback, only for Nunes to land a right hook that switched out her lights, leaving her falling head-first onto the mat.
It was an historic moment that saw Nunes crowned a double champion, and with her now having demolished three legendary figures in Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Cris Cyborg, it was also a fight that sealed her legacy as the greatest female fighter of all-time.
