Nickname Changes
When Sanchez first burst into the UFC he was known as ‘The Nightmare’ and it seemed like a fitting moniker for such an intense, brooding fighter who wanted to put his opponent’s through hell in the Octagon.
However, after a tough time in his personal life, Sanchez revealed that he was changing his nickname to ‘The Dream’, stating that “the nightmare is over and it’s time to start living the dream.”
Fans and even commentators had a hard time accepting the change though, while his next opponent Martin Kampmann quipped, “I’ll put him to sleep and he can dream all he wants.”
Sanchez soon changed back to ‘The Nightmare’, but announced in 2017 that he would now be known as ‘Lionheart’ and that this would be “the year of the lion”, only to then get KO’d twice in that 12 month span.
These days Sanchez is once again going under ‘The Nightmare’ banner, saying that “it’s authentic Diego.”
