500 Stitches
Sanchez’s trademark toughness and warrior spirit has seen him endure some brutal damage over the years, such as the time BJ Penn opened up a gaping wound on his forehead during their title fight, or an equally gruesome cut against Gilbert Melendez that made it look as if his entire eyebrow might come off.
With all the other damage he’s sustained that’s led to Sanchez having received an alarming number of facial stitches throughout his career.
“You go look back and look at The Ultimate Fighter season one, ain’t nobody looking this young and fresh,” Sanchez told MMAMania leading up to his latest fight against Michel Pereira. “Ain’t no one taking 1,672 strikes. Ain’t no one have 500 stitches on his face and still looking clean. Still being able to speak. These are things that I’m bringing into the cage.”
Sanchez would then go on to receive another nasty cut in the fight with Pereira due to an illegal knee that’s now added more stitches to that tally.
