Diego Sanchez is unquestionably one of the most unique, intense, memorable and eccentric fighters ever to step into the Octagon and in this article we’ll look back at the top 20 craziest moments of his long career.
Street Fight With NMSU’s Star Running Back
A year after he graduated from high school, Sanchez was attending a party at New Mexico State University when he got into an altercation with their star running back Walter Taylor, who was angry that he’d turned off their team song and then gave his pet dog a drink of beer.
Sanchez knew he’d have to fight his way out of the situation after being hit by a bottle, and so when the far bigger, stronger running back charged at him throwing a punch, he sprang into action.
“I lowered my level, shot in on him perfectly, and I wasn’t letting go, bro. I lifted him up and I ran him, bro. Boom! Slammed him hard,” Sanchez recalled to Bleacher Report.
A few ground and pound punches appeared to have ended the fight, but when he got up again he was sucker-punched and went into a blind rage.
“I’m lucky I didn’t kill the guy. Thank God he was a durable guy too. But I ruined his football season. I grabbed both of his ears and started shaking the blood that was pouring off my face onto his face. Then I started headbutting him.”
