Khabib Nurmagomedov
This is the toughest fight for McGregor. Khabib Nurmagomedov has everything he needs to be able to destroy McGregor and then some. Which is probably why there isn’t a lot of hype coming out about this matchup.
Listen up when I say this, Russian fighters — particularly Dagestani fighters — are beasts of a different kind. These guys are the creme of the crop of combat sports athletes. There’s just something over there in Dagestan that makes these guys super tough. And Nurmagomedov is no exception.
“The Eagle” is a perfect 24-0 with 16 career finishes. That is quite the impressive resume. He also just recently took care of the tough Michael Johnson via third round kimura last weekend.
McGregor is talented yes, but so is Nurmagomedov. This is also the best fight to make for McGregor, in terms of testing his talent.
Unfortunately, in today’s MMA game, it’s all about the low-risk, high-reward career model. As long as McGregor is getting paid bucketloads of cash for fighting just the bare minimum guys, he’s going to continue doing that.
