4. Krav Maga
This self-defence system was developed for the Israeli Defence Forces and is extremely efficient.
The goal of Krav Maga is to avoid any injury that may result from combat, including multiple attackers and attackers with weapons. Students are taught to avoid combat if possible, but otherwise try to finish a fight as soon as possible or utilize escape routes. Strikes are aimed at the most vulnerable parts of the body, including the eyes, neck, throat, groin fingers etc. It focusses a lot on “situational awareness” in order to see threats before they strike as well.
This martial art is focussed entirely on what to do in real life dangerous situations, and does not translate well to a competitive sport. Sparring is generally not allowed until a student reaches a G2 level, and after that students may spar using protective gear.
A small number of Krav Maga organizations stray from this however, and allow monitored sparring with MMA type rules in place.
