2. Rio Heroes

In 2007, when most other fight organizations were adopting the universal rules of mixed martial arts, Rio Heroes began promoting closed-door vale tudo shows in Brazil.

The organization wouldn’t last long, but they made a solid attempt at reviving the idea that an MMA bout was supposed to be mimic a real fight.

The only rules in the fights were: no eye gouging, no striking the groin and no biting. The fight promotion would only last through 14 events, finally shutting down in early 2008.
