Jon Jones Might be One of the Most Controversial Figures in Combat Sports Today… However Former Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley Believes That He Gets a Lot of Unfair Hate… And He Thinks That Conor McGregor Has Committed Worse Offence Than the Controversial 205lb Champion…

You’d think Jon Jones would take it easy now that he’s a four-time UFC light-heavyweight champion. Many believe that he’s the greatest MMA fighter of all time, which is a fair claim considering he’s never truly been beaten. The light-heavyweight champion has conquered everybody who has crossed his path. His biggest threat is himself.

Jones has been involved in controversy after controversy, both inside and outside the world of MMA. Within the confines of his sport, there have been criticisms of his use of the dark arts like eye-gouging and he’s served suspensions for failing drug tests. In the real world, he’s been involved in so many incidents; the latest allegedly in a strip club.

Now former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has launched a staunch defence of ‘Bones.’ ‘T-Wood’ believes that people are harsher on Jones than they are on other fighters – most notably, Conor McGregor.

Well-Placed

As a former champion, who was in the conversation for greatest welterweight of all time, Tyron Woodley is definitely well-placed to talk about his fellow fighters and how they’re perceived by the public. Jon Jones does get a lot of hate, but how much of that is self-inflicted? Woodley thinks that people react differently to Jones’s extracurricular activities than when Conor McGregor does something. On his TMZ show he said:

“We gonna act like Conor doesn’t do that every week? And we still want to put him on every fight card; he’s the biggest star. The second Jon Jones does something…”

‘Worse’

Woodley continued by saying that McGregor has done worse things than Jones. We’re not sure if that argument holds up. McGregor’s been in brawls with his fellow fighters but he’s never been involved in a hit-and-run with a pregnant woman. Still, Woodley continued:

“I’m defending the fact that we selectively throw people under the bus. Conor has done way worse things than Jon, and he’s glorified and praised as some Scarface of our sport. So I’m not gonna be too hard on Jon (when) I don’t even know the details.”

He has a point. Everybody is quick to jump on the scandal but that’s what sells. Jones has been involved in so many incidents, people almost expect him to at this point.

Getting By

Anyway, it doesn’t look like the strip-club incident is going to hurt Jones. UFC President Dana White has said that he’s seen the footage of the alleged incident and says Jones doesn’t have to worry about it. He’s been charged with one count of battery after allegedly picking up a waitress by the throat.

She also alleged that he tried to kiss her and embrace her without permission. With CCTV footage of whatever went down available to the cops, you can bet that this will be sorted out quickly, one way or another.
