Jorge Masvidal is Having a Moment Right Now… He is Calling Out Conor McGregor and is Ready to Cut to the Chase And Take Him On…
It’s been an incredible 2019 for Jorge Masvidal. He snapped a two-fight losing streak with a devastating knockout win over Darren Till in London. Then he sealed his sudden rise to stardom by demolishing Ben Askren with five seconds of ultra-violence. He flattened the former ONE and Bellator champion with a flying knee.
Not only does he walk the walk, but Masvidal talks the talks. The best comparison to him are the Diaz brothers. He carries himself in a similar no-nonsense way and will not take abuse from anybody. Leon Edwards will attest to that after getting smacked by ‘Gamebred’ in London.
Now the Cuban-American fighter wants to capitalise on his moment in the spotlight. He wants a title shot against welterweight champion Kamaru Usman or the next best thing: a clash with Conor McGregor.
Good Things
Surprisingly, Masvidal has nothing but respect for Conor McGregor. Many fighters don’t like the Irishman because of the things that he has said and because he’s received blatant favouritism from the UFC. Masvidal recognises though that he’s pushed the sport to a new level and has nothing but good things to say about the Notorious. He told TMZ Sports:
“First, let me say whether Conor takes it or not — because people be putting sometimes words in people’s mouths, from my mouth in particular — I got good things to say about Conor. He’s done a lot in this sport and he’s made his money already.”
Let’s Fight
Make no mistake though, if a fight with Conor McGregor is available, then Masvidal wants it. Despite having only fought once in MMA in the last three years, the Irishman remains the biggest draw on the roster and has international mainstream fame. No other current fighter on the roster can say that. Masvidal said:
“Let’s just fight, what I signed up for, and that’s it. Conor wants the fight, I want the fight, it’ll happen. If not, I don’t want anybody putting words in my mouth or nothing like that. The dude is a f-cking G, bro. He did his thing. He wants more money and he’s not getting it, who am I to blame him? I would never tell a guy, ‘You’re a b-tch for not taking a fight.’ No, he wants to get paid his money. He deserves it. I’m in the same place right now. I want an upgrade from where I’ve been at.”
No Flirting
Masvidal isn’t one to mince about with words. Either the fight is happening or it isn’t. If it’s the latter, then fine, just make it clear so that he can move on with his life. There’s no doubt that ‘Gamebred’ is desperate to capitalise on having the highest stock of his career so far. He said:
“The second thing is, if he wants to come back and he wants somebody who’s gonna stand with him and give him the type of fights that he likes, look no further my brother. Let’s not flirt with each other and all this sh-t. I’ve got a big buzz going on because I’m known and put people to sleep. You’ve got a huge buzz because you put people to sleep. Let’s do this. That’s it. It has to be no back and forth and all that flirty sh-t like we’re in high school. Let’s just scrap if we’re gonna scrap. If not, NEXT.”
