The predictions continue to come in thick and fast…
Perhaps the most talked about fight in the last 18 months was also the most unlikely when it hit the news. Ironically its since Conor McGregor won his second UFC title last November that his boxing debut has become much more likely.
Obviously we are talking about Floyd Mayweather, and a bout that’s been linked to one of the biggest combat sports pay days ever. Recently dropping a bomb shell, UFC president Dana White outlined a $175 million total purse for the fight.
The Money Fight
As well as the cash flow, many people have been debating the chances of either fighter in this boxing superfight. Arguably one of the best strikers in MMA, McGregor’s perceived chances in a boxing match have varied.
According to UFC president Dana White, Floyd is going to get hit. Speaking to Snoop Dogg, courtesy of MMAJunkie.com, White says ‘The Notorious’ hits like a truck, and he will connect on Mayweather:
Floyd Might Struggle, Says White
“At the end of the day it’s a fight. Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old; Conor McGregor is 27. Conor’s a big dude. Floyd has trouble with southpaws; Conor McGregor is a southpaw. And Conor McGregor hits like a truck. When he hits you, you know it.
“So, in no way, shape or form am I saying Conor McGregor wins this fight. I don’t know. But it’s more interesting than people think it is. … I promise you Conor McGregor will hit him. When they fight (Mayweather) will get hit, and it will be interesting to see what happens.”
Trouble?
Indeed having been tagged by southpaws, one could argue that Mayweather is not at such an advantage against lefties. That being said the southpaws who tagged him have been elite level professional boxers, champions in their respective sport either previous or at that time.
