Not everyone in MMA believes McGregor’s boxing is red hot…
After 18 months of back-and-forth insults, the UFC’s biggest is likely to meet boxing’s best at some point this year. Obviously we are talking Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather, a rivalry that’s made up 70% of the combat sports headlines this year.
Starting as media hype, according to most, the feud has gathered a lot of momentum. Numerous happenings this year have led to the boxing match edging closer to reality. Obtaining his boxing license and showing the middle finger to the UFC, McGregor has made his intentions clear.

Chances
Stating he’s officially out of retirement to box against ‘The Notorious,’ Mayweather has critics and pundits going wild. Predictions from boxing and MMA media and sports personas alike see mixed opinions.
UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is not at all convinced by McGregor’s boxing pedigree. The UFC FOX analyst and commentator is frank in predicting the outcome of Mayweather vs. McGregor.

Cormier’s Opinion
“Floyd kills him,” Cormier said talking with ESPN. “Conor McGregor can’t box Floyd Mayweather. Let’s be real with ourselves. Neither one of these guys can do the other guy’s sport.”
“It’s looking more and more likely,” the San Jose native said. “Even if Conor was to fight for $50 million and the UFC took $20 million, you don’t make a $30 million pay day in MMA. You just don’t in one fight…I say go do it.”
Cormier’s comments bring up a hotly debated topic in sports right now:
What is Sport?
Although the question seems silly, the talk of Mayweather vs. McGregor really puts this in focus. Is sport about competing to find the greatest athlete, team or fighter, or is it about making money?
Under the new ownership of WME-IMG, the latter has become far more in fashion. How long this trend will continue for is unknown.
