What an unexpected news! Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos are two heavyweight legends that have done a lot for the sport of MMA. In their prime, they were the scariest fighters on the planet considering they are heavyweights that specialize in striking.

Even though Overeem failed to capture a UFC title, he has had a lot of accomplishments outside of UFC. He has said that the UFC gold is the only thing that is lacking in his resume and if he does indeed win the title, he would retire immediately.

Prior to his last fight, he was on a win streak that he even said was his last title run. Unfortunately, he lost to Alexander Volkov where he was just out striked that led to a TKO loss.

Overeem also fought for the title once against Miocic, he was close to submitting Miocicbut unfortunately never got the job done.

As of this moment, Overeem has not posted an official statement yet but he did indicate after his loss that he would get back in the gym so it indicates he planned to get back in the ring. Now, the news that the UFC cut him may have changed his plans. Will he retire for good or keep on fighting for a different promotions.

Overeem also has been in the sport for so long, he made his first MMA fight back in 1999. To be competing as a top heavyweight contender is a great achievement itself. Overeem is also well-spoken considering he has been knocked out a lot of times.

Another great heavyweight, Junior Dos Santos was also cut from the UFC. He has achieved a lot, he won the UFC belt by knocking out then undefeated, Cain Velasquez. He had one of the fastest hands in the heavyweight division and he was known for his high level boxing.

In just his UFC debut, he knocked out another heavyweight great, Fabricio Werdum. Dos Santos also had one of the best rivalries in the division against Cain Velasquez. Some fans thought that the war against Velasquez took out a lot of his prime years. He was brutally beaten in the rematch and in the third match.

Dos Santos has already posted a statement after hearing the news that he has been cut. He initially thanked the UFC and also looked on his great UFC run.

Dos Santos has had a tremendous UFC run, beating guys like Miocic, Velasquez, Carwin and many other tough heavyweight greats. One of the nicest dudes in MMA as well.
