When demonstrating martial arts goes wrong…

In the modern world, mixed martial artists are considered some of the toughest people on the planet. Sports fighting requires a high level of fitness, endurance, strength, mental fortuity and sheer will. This means intense training for long periods of time, strict dieting and many other painful practices to maintain peak performance.

One of the martial arts that fits perfectly in to a fighter’s arsenal is Jiu Jitsu. The grappling art perfected and made famous by the Brazilian Gracie family has served as a worthy base for many of the sport’s most successful fighters.

As with all other martial arts and fighting styles, Jiu Jitsu can be very dangerous, even in practice. Quite often you’ll see fighters pulling out of big bouts injured due to heavy practice going wrong.

The subject of today’s article is no different, and features a UFC fighter getting knocked out cold by a female instructor. Check the video out on the player below:

In case you didn’t recognise the unfortunate victim in this case, it was Ultimate Fighter 22 winner and current UFC featherweight Ryan Hall. The instructor wasn’t aware that she’d choked him out until a fellow student told her, quite fortunately she had noticed before it was too late.

It just goes to show how dangerous martial arts can be. But sometimes it’s not the martial arts themselves that are the biggest risk, and often the ‘masters’ are the ones who are the most dangerous factor in the equation.
