Another high level UFC fight for Conor McGregor, and another opportunity to go completely nuts about his next opponent. Jaw dropping, to say the least…
UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has the promotion going wild right now. After dropping the formerly dominant champion Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 with one punch, ‘The Notorious’ decided it was time to challenge for another title.
Rafael dos Anjos, the current boss at 155 pounds, was the target for McGregor and his team. UFC president Dana White was only too happy to oblige, as the self proclaimed shot caller was lined up with the tough Brazilian at UFC 197.
Many fans and fighters such as Aldo and Frankie Edgar are unhappy about McGregor’s move up to lightweight, as he essentially takes the 145-pound title hostage. ‘The Answer’ Edgar has been on a killer win streak lately, but is clearly being overlooked once again.
But the allure of the big money fight for both the UFC and Conor McGregor was simply far more appealing, and the promotion made the UFC 197 headliner official just yesterday.
“Conor has been cutting down to 145lbs since he was 16. He’s now 27 so it will be nice to take a break from that weight-cut. We’ve done it plenty of times before and we’ll do it again. Funnily enough, the last weight-cut — for the Aldo fight — was probably the best one yet thanks to the help of George Lockhart, who’s on board again for this fight. He’s part of the team now. You’ve seen Conor on salads… now watch what he’s like on steak.”
That was McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh talking about the featherweight champion being much healthier at lightweight, but the fighter’s comments about his next fight are way more controversial.
