The driver of the car has still not been caught…

The former Pride FC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva has been through quite the rough patch in recent years. He’s been away from fighting since 2013 because of legal issues with the UFC and Nevada State Athletic Commission, and then he was involved in a hit-and-run accident this week.

Initial reports were that Silva would require surgery following an incident where he’d been struck while riding his bike. The driver of the vehicle didn’t even stop to check ‘The Axe Murderer’ was OK.

By anyone’s standards, this is a scumbag move, to leave a man for dead in the road, as far as the driver knew anyway. For those thinking this was just a scrape, think again.

Silva revealed on the day of the accident the extent of his injuries, claiming he would require shoulder surgery following the hit-and-run that happened in Brazil. He was actually on his way home from training when it occurred.

Silva’s following in the MMA community is a large one, and many feel he helped pioneer the sport of mixed martial arts during the Japanese boom around the millennium. He holds the longest unbeaten streak in Pride FC history with 20, and also the most wins in Pride history with 22.

He’s finally spoke out about the accident, revealing the true extent of his injuries, and it’s not nice…
