When Your Dad is One of the Greatest MMA Fighters of All Time You Can Bet That Everybody Will Be After You if You Step Up to Fight… Anderson Silva’s Son Gabriel Was Able to Beat His First Muay Thai Opponent by TKO…

Anderson Silva is one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time and definitely the best middleweight ever. Despite testing positive for PED use late in his career, the Brazilian is still regarded fondly by MMA fans and rightly so. In his prime, he was a phenomenal and very entertaining striker.

Who can forget his fights with the likes of Rich Franklin, Chael Sonnen and Chris Leben? He was deadly and effective, rolling with punches with head movement as nobody had ever seen before. The Spider was a phenom and truly dominated the sport until he ran into Chris Weidman.

Now his son has entered the fight game, albeit as an amateur. Gabriel Silva took on another unnamed competitor at WCK 35 in southern California? His lineage is outstanding so can the younger Silva establish himself as a fighter in his own right?

Beat Down

As you can see from this admittedly doctored clip, it looked like a pretty one-sided fight. Gabriel Silva was the taller fighter and showcased some of the trademark Silva head movement, slipping away from his opponent’s punches. He was also slicker with his own strikes, landing them at will.

He would go on to win the fight by TKO. Unfortunately, the finish was posted, but it was an outstanding debut for the young man and he’ll definitely get a confidence boost from starting off with a win.

Proud Dad

As a father Anderson Silva was obviously very proud of his son winning in such a dominant fashion. He commented on the video after it was shared and clearly took great pride from his son’s win. He noted that Silva Jr’s movement was very similar to the Spider’s. The UFC veteran wrote:

“I’m very proud. I saw a lot of me in you today. I’m happy, and think that the certainty that I can really stop really is closer. Love you, my son. Bad Boys.”

Smart Move

Many UFC fighters have spoken in the past about how they’d want to respond to their own kids wanting to fight. For example, Michael Bisping has said that he fought so that his kids won’t have to. Meanwhile, Conor McGregor has said that he won’t force his son Conor Jr. to do anything that he doesn’t want to do. If he wishes to be a fighter then that is the path that he will take. If it isn’t, then McGregor will at least ensure that his son has the ability to defend himself. Back in 2017, The Notorious said:

“I think I’m going to raise a special young boy who’s going to go on and achieve great things, I’m very excited about that. Like I said, I’m going to put him into training, sport, fighting. I’m not going to push him into fighting. If he wants to fight that’s great. If not it’s his own decision but he will be skilled in how to fight.”

You’ve got to respect that mindset from the Irishman.
