It Takes an Intense Person to be an MMA Fighter… However, Some People Are Just Pure Evil…

MMA is one of the toughest sports in the world. A certain type of person will be good at it. If you’ve faced challenges in your life and had a difficult childhood then maybe you’ll have the right character to want to work at it. There are some people who have passed through the game who are just twisted though.

We’re not saying that all MMA fighters are evil. Not at all. We just want to show you the wackjobs who have fought in MMA because they’ve all got mad stories. The overwhelming majority of fighters might be crazy because they want to fight for a living. But we say that with love because most of them are also great human beings.

Not these guys. Check out the ten most evil MMA fighters below.

10 Viacheslav Datsik

By no means, the biggest name on this list, Viacheslav Datsik is probably best known in the MMA world for knocking out Andrei Arlovski back in 1999. Notorious for his in-ring antics, he eventually walked away with a record of 6 wins and 9 losses.

It’s when he joined the Russian Nationalist Party that things got crazy. He had obsessive Anti-Semitic and Anti-Christian views and advocated Slavic paganism. He believed he was ‘Red Tarzan,’ the son of Slavic god Perun. As well as escaping from prison after an armed robbery, he was notorious for his vigilante raids on brothels. He’d beat women and send them naked onto the street.

9 Lee Murray.

When Dana White says, “He’s a scary son of a bitch and I don’t mean in the cage,” then you know something is up. Lee Murray was a solid MMA fighter. He fought and lost to Anderson Silva by decision at Cage Rage and had one UFC win before being barred from the US. Multiple violent assault charges were brought against him throughout his life. His violent life caused him to be stabbed. This forced him to retire from MMA.

Undoubtedly the highlight of his life of crime was being the mastermind behind the largest bank heist in British history. A grand total of 53 million pounds were stolen. He was eventually arrested in Morocco where he was initially sentenced to ten years in prison, which was extended to 25. Not fun at all.

8. Josh Grispi

Before ending up behind bars, Josh Grispi had a very solid MMA career. He even became a no. 1 contender in the WEC lightweight division and was meant to fight Jose Aldo for the UFC featherweight strap. However, he wouldn’t wait for the injured champion to recover and would go on to get smashed by Dustin Poirier. It was a poor decision that sent him into a downward spiral in MMA.

When you train your bull terrier to attack your wife you know you’re at least a little bit evil. That’s exactly what Grispi did. In 2014 he was sentenced for violently assaulting his wife twice. He was abusive to her throughout their marriage. As well as being a wife beater police found 15 marijuana plants and 15 grams of cocaine in his house. He’s still behind bars.

7 Mike Whitehead.

The Oregon fighter is a former wrestler and MMA journeyman. He had one Ultimate Fighter appearance that left Dana White utterly bemused when he stopped fighting. However, he’d establish a decent record on the regional scene appearing for the likes of IFL, Affliction and Strikeforce.

Whitehead is as nasty as his surname suggests. In 2010 a female friend reported him for sexual assault at his home. He faced several charges including two counts of sexual assault and one count each of attempted sexual assault and open and gross lewdness. Making things worse for him were the 50 marijuana plants found in his home. He faced up to 20 years in prison but only got four.

 6 Hermes Franca

The Brazilian is one of the most successful fighters on this list. He is a former WEC lightweight champion and was a contender in the UFC. He even holds a win over Nate Diaz. His career would eventually deteriorate into inconsistency as his record of 26 wins and 19 losses shows.

In 2011 he was charged with multiple sexual battery charges and was convicted for unlawful penetration. Franca served 42 months in prison and was eventually deported back to Brazil,  but not before he was put on the sex offender’s list.

5. Alexander Emelianenko

One of the most high-profile names on this list, Fedor’s little brother was effectively a gatekeeper when he was on the PRIDE roster. He’d beat average fighters but fall short of taking down the very best and emulating his older and more successful sibling’s achievements.

In May 2014, ‘The Grim Reaper’ assaulted and raped his housekeeper as well as stealing her passport. He was sentenced to 4 and ½ years in prison. However, he would serve just over two and be released on parole in 2016. Recently he’s been picked up by police for drinking in a playground and smashing his gold Mercedes into a police car.

4. Jeremy Jackson

‘Scorpion’ left MMA with a record of 14-5 before being jailed for 25 years. Jackson is still the only man to finish Nick Diaz. That’s probably the highlight of this evil human being’s life because he hasn’t done much else good with it.

He’s currently serving time for breaking into his girlfriend’s house in 2008. Then he threatened her with a firearm and sexually assaulted her. He was convicted of aggravated rape and held on bail of $1 million. Against his lawyer’s advice, he pleaded guilty to the charges and was whacked with a quarter of a century in prison. Not a nice dude at all.

3.War Machine.

When you legally change your name from Jonathan Koppenhaver to ‘War Machine’ it should be a trigger warning that you’ve got a problem. As a professional, he was actually a good fighter, with a record of 19-5. He fought on the Ultimate Fighter and would eventually move on to Bellator.

The warning signs were there after being charged with multiple minor assaults through his life. But it all came to a climax in 2014 when he viciously assaulted his girlfriend Christy Mack. She suffered insane injuries including 18 broken bones, broken teeth and a ruptured liver. He was sentenced to life in prison with a chance of parole after 36 years.

2. Jared Wyatt.

You might not remember the name Jared Wyatt but the dude is an absolute psycho. He only fought once as a professional. Typically the mainstream media ran away with the narrative that he was an MMA fighter because the image of the sport was that of thugs beating each other in cages.

He infamously murdered his sparring partner Taylor Powell while on drugs. He gruesomely ripped out his friend’s heart and tongue and removed the skin off of his face. Wyatt claimed that he believed Powell was possessed by the devil. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison in 2010.

1 Joe Son

It takes a lot to top this list but we believe Joe Son deserves to be there. 0-4 in MMA, he took the worst of strikes when he was a fighter, which may explain why he turned out to be an absolute psycho. He was charged in connection with gang rape in 1990.

The details of that case are horrific. He was found guilty of torture after pistol whipping and sexually assaulting his victim and was sentenced to life in prison. You’d think he wouldn’t be able to do anything behind bars, but no. Son was found guilty of the voluntary manslaughter of his cellmate in 2011, after beating him to death. Vile.
