UFC light-heavyweight Anthony Smith looks like the most stereotypical MMA fighter on the planet. With his muscular frame and wild tattoos, ‘Lionheart’ has an intimidating appearance. However, looks can be deceiving because he’s no simple thug. Smith is highly intelligent and very articulate.
You would think though that nobody would want to mess with him outside of an octagon. Unless you’re Jon Jones, the chances of you beating Smith in a fight are few. However, that’s exactly what happened to the former middleweight, when an intruder broke into his home.
Smith described the fight with the lighterman as one of the toughest of his life. But now video footage of the man – identified as Luke Haberman – has emerged. Check out Haberman’s alleged attempt to rob another Nebraska home, before his ill-fated meeting with Smith.
.@lionheartasmith says he's still ready to fight on 4/25 even after he fought off an intruder at his home over the weekend. This is video for the suspect after he allegedly broke into another man's home before going to Smith's. Smith describes what happened.@3NewsNowOmaha pic.twitter.com/mGwSlTjimo

Unhinged
As you can tell from the shriek he lets out, Haberman was definitely unhinged. We don’t know what he took but it was the good stuff. Smith explained that he genuinely thought he was in a life-or-date scenario and reacted to protect his wife and children. However, he was stunned by Haberman’s offense. Weighing only about 170lbs, he was still able to fight the 205lb cage fighter for several minutes.
“I didn’t know what he had,” Smith told assembled media. “Typically people don’t break into your house in the middle of the night for any good reasons. I’m expecting that I’m gonna hear a gunshot or he’s gonna stab me. Like he’s got something. I figure I’ve got about two minutes before whatever he’s got takes me out.”
“No normal human is able to fight like that. I’m by no means the baddest dude on the planet. But he’s a regular Joe and I had a hard time dealing with him. And he took everything that I gave him — every punch, every knee, every elbow. He took every single one of them and kept fighting me.”

Choked Out
However, one man who was unimpressed by Smith’s actions was Joe Rogan. Speaking to Brendan Schaub on The Joe Rogan Experience he said that the UFC fighter should have just choked him out. Of course, we have no idea if that was even an option for Smith so it’s easy for Rogan to say that in hindsight.
“Anthony Smith is one of the baddest motherf**kers walking the earth,” Rogan said . “He (the intruder) was smaller than him. The guy was a hundred and seventy pounds and he took everything he could throw at him. Why didn’t he just choke him unconscious?”
Schaub being Schaub, agreed with him.

Reality Check
But for Smith, this was a horrifying experience. It also brought him down to earth with a bang. In short, UFC fighters feel like they’re the toughest people on the planet. However, in truth, everybody is vulnerable in a street fight. All it takes is one bullet or a knife and then suddenly you’re helpless. Smith agreed he is less vulnerable than most people. It was still a shocking experience.
“You always just think you’re such a badass,” Smith said. “I just don’t feel like one, I feel … insufficient a little bit. I didn’t know it was possible to be that terrified.”
You just can’t prepare for a situation like that. It’s a nightmare for anybody. Nothing is worse than somebody violating the sanctuary of your home.
