UFC 196 seems like a lifetime ago now, but it’s only in fact three months in the past. ‘The Notorious’ has still not gone back to featherweight yet, which is somewhat surprising. He’s held the title at 145 pounds since knocking out Jose Aldo at UFC 194, but is determined to avenge his loss to Nate Diaz.

Diaz, the much bigger man physically, handled everything McGregor threw at him in their welterweight fight. On just 11 days notice, Diaz rocked McGregor before choking him in to submission on the ground.

Although he was moving up two weight classes in a very bold move, McGregor was still the odds on favorite to beat Diaz on March 5. He was booked in for an immediate rematch at UFC 200, but it quickly fell apart when the Irish star refused to attend a press conference in California.

Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor were once again paired up, this time for UFC 202 this past weekend.

So the rematch that never really needed to happen, was cancelled after the press conference debacle, is now on again for UFC 202.

The news came during the blockbuster UFC 199 card this past Saturday June 4, along with the announcement of Brock Lesnar’s comeback. The crowd was very pleased, but had a classic reaction as it turned out Nate Diaz was actually in the building.
