Stop What You’re Doing and Watch This Now… Derrick Lewis is a Genius… It’s His World and We’re Just Living in it…
Derrick Lewis is set to fight Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title, in a clash that came totally out of the blue. Nobody expected this. Some people are underwhelmed, as Cormier will be a massive favorite, but to be brutally honest we want them to just skip the action and get straight to the interviews.
Lewis is one of the most entertaining humans in MMA today. He’s definitely not the greatest fighter, even if he is capable of KOing anybody on the planet – but the Black Beast is hilarious and has an incredible personality. His line: ‘Cos my balls was hot’ is destined to be immortal.
Now in an effort to hype up this unexpected heavyweight title clash, Lewis has released an extraordinary promotional video. We’re going to say nothing else. Just watch it below.

Glorious
This is just incredibly hilarious. Lewis basically cuts John Malkovich’s voiceover from the final Khabib Nurmagamedov v Conor McGregor trailer and uses it to show off some epic and funny moments. DC’s Popeye’s Chicken dance? Check. Lewis drinking from a very sophisticated glass? Check. This promotion has everything. The UFC needs to sack whoever they have in their media department and just hand the reins to Lewis. He’s wasted as a fighter.
It will be fascinating to see how Lewis and Cormier interact as this one gets closer. They’ve jokingly jibed at each other before – while sitting side by side in press conferences. Will they still be on good terms after this one? We’ve seen how competitive ‘The Black Beast’ can get.
Unexpected
Lewis openly said, in his incredible post-fight press conference, that he did not expect to fight in a title fight anytime soon. His cardio is pretty much non-existent. That did make his knockout of Alexander Volkov all the more epic when he finished the Russian in the last 11 seconds of their fight last weekend. What a hero.
Cormier is a massive opening favorite for this one already. He’s expected to take Lewis down and just wrestle him for five rounds. We’ve seen though, Lewis can put anyone to sleep – even when entirely gassed out and having been beaten up for multiple rounds. He’s got heart and street passion.
Big Card
Even though UFC 230 has lost its co-main event – with Dustin Poirier injured and Nate Diaz dropping out – it’s still a massive event. Valentina Shevchenko will fight former kickboxing foe Joanna Jedrzejckzyk for the flyweight title after Sijuara Eubanks was basically told she’s not famous enough to headline.
Meanwhile, former middleweight champions Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman will fight again, while Israel Adesanya, Jacare Souza, and Derek Brunson are all also on the card. It promises to be an epic night of fights. If it lives up to Lewis’s promotion then things will definitely have gone right.
