As if taking abuse from his opponent wasn’t bad enough, it must have come as a surprise to ‘Bones’ as a member of the audience had a swipe at him, especially being in New York, his home state. Even through all of his controversy, Jones has remained a fan favourite, normally getting cheered as Cormier deals with the boo boys.
In a change from the norm one member of the audience picked his moment to be heard above the fighters, press and the cheering crowd. At 29:58 of the video a fan shouts:
“will your crack dealer be in your corner at 200?”
Dana White and Jon Jones smiled and laughed at the comments, all the while probably hoping they weren’t picked up by the media microphones. Sorry lads. Jones is famously sober for several months now since his run in with the law last year. Having had several controversies over the years with drugs and traffic crimes, it seems Jones will have to do more than just win a fight to put all his misdemeanour’s behind him.
Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will headline UFC 200 on July 9th. It is a pretty good fall back fight for the UFC but will probably prove to not be as lucrative for the company after McGregor was axed from the card.
