Everybody’s Least Favourite Heavyweight Destroyer Just Ripped Up the Kraken… Greg Hardy Improved His UFC Record to 2-1 After Taking Down Juan Adams…

This was a massive opportunity for Juan Adams to make a statement. He had managed to get a lot of positive publicity this week after dining with random fans, wearing a romper and just generally not being Greg Hardy. But sometimes the cards just don’t fall your way.

Hardy is the most controversial UFC signing of the past five years. His domestic violence record is well-known at this stage – he allegedly chucked his girlfriend onto a pile of guns – and then bizarrely the charges were dropped. We’re not jumping to conclusions but…

Anyway, Hardy showed that he can be a force in this division by handing Adams his second straight loss, in absolutely savage fashion. Check out the finish below. It’s a very violent one. Hardy is a bad man.

Violence

First of all, just be glad that we got any sort of finish at all. UFC San Antonio was a bit of a disaster with no less than eleven straight decisions. That’s not exactly what the promotion would have wanted, but anyway Hardy – whether you like him or not – delivered.

He obliterated Adams in a mere 45 seconds. ‘The Kraken’ had come into this with a lot of trash talk about how he was going to KO Hardy, but boy, it didn’t turn out that way. The fight started with Hardy throwing some solid jabs, as he looked to set up a left hook. Adams went for the takedown and Hardy used a whizzer to stop it.

Adams kept trying to force the takedown and that was his undoing. As he was on his knees, Hardy unloaded with punches on the side of his head. He might not have been totally out but it was a fair stoppage because the damage he was taking was pretty extreme.

Reaction

After the fight, Adams was clearly not happy. Despite the stoppage being reasonable, he got to his feet and protested before leaving the octagon before the decision was made official. Afterwards, he released two statements apologising for his actions:

“I apologize to the UFC and to the fans for the way i acted after the fight. I let my emotions get the better of me and i acted horribly. To everyone present and watching at home i truly apologize. I took a few to the head and was caught up in the moment.”

“Guys I don’t party after a loss, I’m sorry. I am sorry for losing composure, I am sorry for not honoring my word, and all I can do is prove myself if given another opportunity. Whatever is next is next, but next week it’s back in the gym.”

Up Next

To be fair to Adams he’s not Greg Hardy, so we’ll forgive him. But he has lost his last two fights so his next one is set to be a big one. Meanwhile, Hardy improves to 5-1 in his professional career. There’s no doubt the former footballer has the athletic ability to continue to make an impact in the division.

However, it will be interesting to see how he gets on when he faces an elite calibre heavyweight. Just feed him to Ngannou.
