Do Not Mess With The Great Eight… Alexander Ovechkin Put Rising NHL Star Andrei Svechnikov in His Place With His Fists… Scroll Down for the Russian Hockey Legend’s Brutal KO…
Ice hockey is notorious for its fights on the ice between rival teams. There is something special about the sport’s athletes, who are some of the most competitive in the world and provide action-packed entertainment for the world to watch.
One of the biggest stars in the game is Russia’s, Alexander Ovechkin. The captain of the Washington Capitals, he’s won the Rocket Richard Trophy a record eight times for being the league’s top scorer and won the Stanley Cup with his team in 2018.
Ovechkin has never been considered a volatile character, but wow, he showed Andrei Svechnikov why he shouldn’t be messed with after he knocked the youngster down on the ice and sent him to the shadow realm. Watch the footage below.
You know what they say…

Damage
The action took place when the Washington Capitals took on the Carolina Hurricanes during their Stanley Cup playoff game. It was in the first period of Game 3 when the hands were thrown between the two Russians. Whatever Svechnikov definitely did provoke the Capitals’ captain because he melted down.
Svechnikov tried to swing a few hooks in the direction of the wily winger. However, Ovechkin was equal to it and dropped the younger man with his right hand, smashing him to the ground. The Hurricanes player stayed on the ice for a few minutes before his teammates led him off of the ice.
Both players were hit with five-minute penalties for fighting. Ironically, Svechnikov was ultimately barred from returning to action. Although Carolina would win the game 5-0, the Capitals were still ahead in the series 2-1.

Respect
Ovechkin’s KO attracted the attention of another man who has had an up-and-down relationship with Russia. Conor McGregor was once offered Russian citizenship to fight in the country and has been a guest of the nation’s premier Vladimir Putin. However, his toxic rivalry with Khabib Nurmagamedov has definitely damaged his image in one of the world’s most patriotic nations. McGregor tweeted:
“Congrats
@ovi8! A Proper Russian. Great to meet you in Moscow big man, see you again soon! They can run, but they can’t hide.”
OUCH.

OUCH
Ovechkin wasn’t the only athlete to attract the praise of a UFC fighter over the past couple of days. Jon Jones took a break from going back and forth with Israel Adesanya to praise Joel Embid for a violent foul. The Philadelphia 76er’s player smashed Brooklyn Nets centre Jarrett Allen with a pretty good imitation of a spinning back elbow strike, which you can check out above. Jones showed his appreciation saying:
“That technique wasn’t too bad, always room in the UFC.”
Jones is very famous for his use of elbows, perhaps most famously in his first fight against Sweden’s Alexander Gustafsson. He’s set to defend his light-heavyweight title for the second time since winning the strap again, against Thiago Santos in July at UFC 239.
