That sound is like BOOM…
Heading in to UFC 206, there was a lot of debate about how good it would be. After seeing Georges St-Pierre’s comeback in Canada fall apart, fans believed the card was in trouble. Yet there was more drama to come.
Following the GSP saga came the main event troubles. Just one month prior to UFC 206, light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was injured. After ‘DC’ pulled out, Anthony Johnson was scratched from the event in Canada.
Showtime Weight Botch
Promoted to the main event for the featherweight interim title was Anthony Pettis vs. Max Holloway. In order to do this, the UFC needed to strip Conor McGregor, and promote Jose Aldo to full champion.
This didn’t sit well with fans, and the whole mess was made worse when Pettis missed weight. UFC 206 was getting a really bad rep in the media, but boy, did the event kick serious ass!
Vannata’s Groovy KO
Taking place on the undercard of UFC 206 was a lightweight collision between Lando Vannata and John Makdessi. ‘Groovy’ had stepped in on short notic to fight Tony Ferguson in his last fight, and impressed fans with his performance.
Against Makdessi in Canada, Vannata pulled off one of the craziest knockouts ever. Spinning with a beautifully timed head kick, Vannata knocked out ‘The Bull’ with a violent finish. The sound was like someone thumping a baseball bat against a cow carcass.
