Long-time UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has years of experience calling fights inside the Octagon. Recently on his web show the “Joe Rogan Experience”, the broadcaster called one of the greatest fights in human history.
Rogan commentated on the showdown between the legendary Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris.
Aside from being a UFC broadcaster, Rogan is also a TV and radio host. Fans tune in to watch Rogan in his unique brand of ‘brutal honesty’ and comedic lines, along with the fact that the guy just knows a great deal about martial arts in general.
On the show with Cuban-American stand-up comedian Joey Diaz, the two gave the classic encounter between Lee and Norris a modern spin. They calling the fight with mixed martial arts commentary.
“Oh! Chuck Norris scores with a wheelkick to the face!” said Rogan, as Norris made the first contact.
“Oh! Oblique kick! Jon Jones style son,” said Rogan moments later.
The 1972 Film ‘Way of the Dragon’ starring Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris
It was a hilarious take on the classic scene in the movie ‘Way of the Dragon’, a 1972 Hong Kong martial arts comedy film. The movie was written, produced and directed by Lee himself.
Lee, of course, is credited in some circles to be the father of modern-day Mixed Martial Arts.
The Hong Kong action star developed his own martial art in the late 1960’s called Jeet Kune Do and also traveled the world taking on different challengers of various disciplines.
One of his most famous quotes calls for fighters to “be like water” and that fighters must be “shapeless, formless” which is a reflection of the philosophies of modern-day MMA.
The battle with Norris took place at the Roman Colosseum although the scene wasn’t shot at the actual location but rather on a prop set.
Rogan was pretty mesmerized by what kind of action existed back in the 70’s, even referencing Bruce Lee as the first to do certain things. Watch the video to see the whole exchange.
