Diaz-v-McGregor2

The two fighters pushed each other to their physical limits for 25 minutes

“Great fight brother. Great f*cking fight. You’re a real Mexican warrior,” McGregor told Diaz as the two fighters showed mutual respect and shook hands.

Moments later, UFC announcer Bruce Buffer declared McGregor the winner as referee “Big” John McCarthy raised the Irishman’s hand in victory.

Diaz’s friends and family members shook their heads in disbelief.

Back in the locker room, Diaz and company were still in awe at the scores. Kron Gracie, McGregor’s teammate and a grandson of one of the founding fathers of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Helio Gracie, told Diaz that though the judges awarded points to McGregor for his work to the body and with leg kicks, that he thought Diaz won the fight as a whole.

The UFC however follows the 10-point must system, where each fight is scored by rounds. In the end, McGregor ran away with a 48-47 (twice), 47-47 Majority Decision victory.

On the way to the locker rooms, McGregor is seen smiling, obviously ecstatic that he won the fight. The two fighters now sit at one win apiece but due to their performances, a third and deciding bout seems inevitable.
