Former top UFC prospect Melvin Guillard continues his ugly slide into retirement…

Once a red hot UFC lightweight prospect, knockout artist Melvin Guillard was tabbed for super-stardom. When he joined the UFC in 2005, Guillard did so with a 19-4-2 (1) record. ‘The Young Assassin’ had fast hands and a bright future potentially ahead.

By 2011, although he’d racked up four losses, Guillard had also won 10 fights. Little did anyone know at the time, but this was the last time we’d see the red hot prospect put together a win streak.

Melvin’s Loss of Form

After being finished by Jim Millaer, Joe Lauzon and Donald Cerrone, Guillard dropped decisions to Jamie Varner and Michael Johnson. With his record at 31-13, Guillard was canned by the UFC, and things didn’t get better.

Although he beat Gesias Cavalcante in WSOF, Guillard’s current situation is terrible. He’s missed weight in six of his last seven fights, and has won only once in his last seven. Turning up in China yesterday, Guillard was on the wrong end of this harrowing knockout:
